How do I know if my meter is SMART?
Ways to Check if You Have a Smart Meter:
- Use the Citizens Advice Smart Meter Checker Tool: https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/ You will need:
- Your MPAN (for electricity) and MPRN (for gas) — both found on your energy bill.
- Your postcode.
2. Check for an In-Home Display (IHD)
- If you were given a wireless in-home display showing real-time energy usage, it's a sign you likely have a smart meter.
- Even if it’s not set up or working, having one usually means you have a smart meter installed.
3. Review Your Energy Bill
- Look for any mention of:
- “Smart meter”
- “Communications hub” or “IHD”
- Automatic readings (instead of estimated or customer-supplied readings)
4. Look at the Meter Itself
- If your meter was installed or replaced after January 2009 and:
- It has a digital display (instead of a spinning dial),
- It shows data or a mobile signal icon, or
- It has a label from your energy provider mentioning "smart", then it's likely a smart meter.
